FROM OUR HEARTS ORGANIZATION NEWS

TWO ORGANIZATIONS COMBINE FORCES

Two very important Island organizations have combined forces to better serve the residents of Pine Island. From Our Hearts has joined the Beacon of Hope with the aim of allowing both groups to improve the quality and scope  of services they provide for Breast Cancer Care. Betsy Haesemeyer, Beacon of Hope Executive Director, feels the merger “allows each organization to concentrate on their individual skills. The Beacon providing excellent administrative support and case management while From Our Hearts brings very effective fund raising and breast cancer awareness.” “Our mission remains to support breast health for Pine Island residents”, says Karen Washburn, Chairperson of the From Our Hearts Advisory Committee. “We will continue to work with Partners for Breast Cancer Care and Lee Cancer Care for screening and treatment”, she added.

As part of the Beacon of Hope, From Our Hearts will now be able to help with medical needs not covered through Partners For Breast Cancer Care or Lee Health such as medications and palliative care.

Beacon Board member Lucy Garcia says “I’m excited about my new role as liaison between From Our Hearts and our Board. Having worked with both organizations for many years, I can say that this merger will greatly enhance services to Pine Island residents.”

Join us for the eighteenth annual Brest Fest, March 9th to support  From Our Hearts’ mission . This year’s Fest is shaping up to be a special event.

From Our Hearts attends Beacon of Hope’s Wellness Committee Meeting.

From Our Hearts, as a member of the Beacon of Hope’s Wellness Committee, attended a Cancer Coalition Outreach meeting at St John’s Episcopal Church at 771 Stringfellow Rd, St. James City on July 18, 2017. All local organizations and members of the community were invited to attend this session where we introduced islanders to many of the free or low cost services available to those facing cancer. In addition to sharing information about these available services, the Beacon of Hope’s Wellness Committee is building a resource guide so island residents will know where to go when in need either due to health or non health related issues. This meeting was a beginning to build that directory.

FROST Clinical Study

The Frost clinical study is currently enrolling patients.  The FROST Clinical Study examines the use of cryoablation as an alternative to surgical resection for the management of primary early stage invasive breast cancer.  This study is intended to assess the outcomes of cryoablation alone as an alternative to standard breast surgery (lumpectomy) in malignant tumors.  Currently, there are a total of 14 sites across the nation enrolling patients with many more finalizing paperwork.  For more information call 800-909-3060 or visit http://www.sanarus.com/clinical-info
